The Diversity Summit

The Summit was presented by Fork in the Road, Inc., GLASS 2.0, and the Transgender Project & co-sponsored by the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (ICAN).

​The Diversity Summit was a 1-day conference for social workers, teachers, law enforcement, and other providers. Among the issues The Diversity Summit engaged were:

• The needs of transgender children in foster care
• The disproportionate number of Black and brown children in foster care
• The history of child welfare policy during the 20th century and its impact on Black families

MORNING KEYNOTE SPEAKER – DR. GERALD P. MALLON, DSW

Our morning keynote speaker was Dr. Gerald P. Mallon, DSW, the Julia Lathrop Professor of Child Welfare and the Associate Dean of Scholarship and Research at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City. Dr. Mallon is an internationally recognized expert on LGBTQ+ children, youth, and family issues particularly as they relate to child welfare.

AFTERNOON KEYNOTE SPEAKER – JODY DAVID ARMOUR, USC GOULD SCHOOL OF LAW

Jody David Armour is the Roy P. Crocker Professor of Law at the University of Southern California. He has been a member of the faculty since 1995. Armour’s expertise ranges from personal injury claims to claims about the relationship between racial justice, criminal justice, and the rule of law. Armour studies the intersection of race and legal decision making as well as torts and tort reform movements.
