NEXUS XII Wrapup

In partnership with ICAN and First 5 LA, ICAN Associates presented the twelfth annual Nexus Training Conference: "Violence Within the Home and Its Effects on Children" at the Sheraton Universal Hotel. This beautiful setting provided approximately 1,000 professionals, volunteers, and community representatives with the opportunity to hear local, national and state experts address the various complex issues of family violence and child abuse.

The Nexus XII Conference featured best selling authors Dave Pelzer and David Kessler. Dave Pelzer’s first book, A Child Called “It,” has been on the New York Times Best Seller List for over six years. David Kessler collaborated with noted author Elizabeth Kubler Ross on her final book, On Grief and Grieving. An inspirational Keynote Address was provided by award winning actress, artist, and child advocate, Jane Seymour.

The conference included eighteen workshops, providing attendees with training to strengthen multi-disciplinary responses to victims of family violence. Among the Workshops featured such cutting edge topics as “Bullying or Harmless Teasing?,” “At Risk Youth and Internet Predators,” and “Animal Cruelty and Human Violence.”
Guests were entertained by talented young singer Jadzia Pittman, singer-songwriter Celeste Prince, and The Saint Monica’s Catholic High School Choir, the “Rainbow Riders.”

This extraordinary event will continue to provide timely information concerning the nexus between child abuse and domestic violence to help those who work with vulnerable children and their families.

ICAN and ICAN Associates are extremely grateful to the numerous volunteers and agencies that continue to support the Nexus Conferences. If you would like to become a Nexus sponsor or volunteer please contact the ICAN office at (626) 455-4585 to receive further information.
